Trailor fender ideas...
Anyone got slick ideas for trailor fenders?

I like the ones that you can swing out then you can just drive on the tires.

my dad has some 1/4" tread plate reinforced fenders on his trailer that we drive over with full size rigs. only issue is with a broken rig, it can be a pain to load as the ends are kinda steep.

Check out how the uhaul auto transport trailers do it, it's pretty sweet setup.
By the way, driver over fenders are great until you have to load a disable rig onto the trailer.

Drive over fenders are very convenient and I love mine, but also as mentioned above loading broken rigs can be a pain. I've had steering issues and even a broke front axleshaft (down to 3 wheel drive) that made it a pain. For the 3 wheel drive time it was raining and slick enough (diamond tread deck) that it spun sideways while trying to back over the fenders to unload. We had to hook a forklift to it to pull it back sideways. This was with aired down 38's. My plan is to eventually build drive-over fenders that can be removed or swung out of the way relatively easy.

Lot of good advice here...
I would think that to make a drive over fender that would be strong enuff, would also make it heavy enuff to be a pain if it was designed to be removable....... So if one had to choose, sounds like removable be the way to go. Sent from my LS670 using Tapatalk

Todd just did mine at shotgun fab. I took him 2 new fenders and and four hold down straps I got at truck and trailer off of Richwood and he fabbed up some removeable fenders for me. Just used some approx 1/2" id/od square tube and made it so the pieces welded to the fenders slid into the pieces on the trailer, just like a trailer hitch. Now both fenders come off if needed really basic but very effective

i just did my trailer so i could drive over one fender with full size axles. used a piece of 1/4 x 4 piece of angle. just made the angles up and down in front of and behind the fenders long enough so as not to be that much of an issue if it were to come down to a 3 or 2 wheel drive situation. then again, i would think that if the angles were to great for that situation then anyone running a rig that big would also have a winch on the front to help itself pull over the fender. the 4" provides more than enough so as to only have to drive over one fender and not both. btw, my trailer is 16'. 2' of which is the dovetail and i have a truckbox on the front of the deck and my rig is 117" center of wheel to center of wheel and it sits on there perfectly for weight distribution without have to sit either tire on the angle.

I've done the broken rig limping onto trailer over fenders PITA...
That is why I'm partial to the deck-over. Added benefit is no worries about dropping a tire off the edge, or clipping a mailbox because the track width is the same(-ish) as the truck. Higher COG is the price I pay, but I'm quite comfortable with the setup... But I digress... the lower angle that you can get away with if they're non-removable the better... removable, or pivoting... I'm quite certain that you can come up with something functional that looks worthy of putting "YellowJacket Fab" on the side...

If they were removable I would have to remove the fenders, pull the rig on the trailer part of the way (front tires past the fenders), get out and put the fenders back on, get back in the rig and pull it forward until the rear tires touched. |

Lol..im restructuring..its gonna be "bumblebee fab"... Then next year its gonna be " hornet fab"...i figured out the system:)

some good bracing and 8"x 2"x 1/8" channel and you are good to go... I have seen this set up on a guys trailer that mud races a full size chevy and it worked well...

Just another comment, my suggestion is to make the ramp wide enough so you don't have to worry about slipping a tire off the side of it if you are not perfectly centered when pulling on. I've been a few situations where there was snow/ice or muddy tires that made the deck and ramps pretty slick.

If your rig is already wide enough to need drive over fenders,why only when it breaks is it a pain in the ass.Mines a pain whenever it breaks.Riddle me Batman because I am going full width and have to do drive over fenders.

its a pain when it breaks mainly because last time i broke, my rig with muddy tires on a wet wood deck would not drive itself over the fender in only 2 wheel drive. with a full 4wd rig, you can drive right over them but with a non running or partially disabled rig that little 10" hump to get over the fenders becomes a mountain that usually requires assistance to get over. granted, a winch on the rig or the trailer either one can remedy this pretty easily but just enough to make it a pain.

I fully intend on being narrower than fenders. But it be nice to haul someone elses rig, or if my rig grows wider someday, ect...
