XJ transfer case

I have a 92 Jeep Cherokee XJ Laredo edition. I'm trying to find out what type of Transfer Case I have. It appears that there are 4 types that went into XJs over the course of the XJ existence. Anyone know how to tell which one is which?

Plus. I need a replacement for the one I have. If you have one let me know.

Thanks,
-Dave

Did you climb under it and see if the tag is still on it?

i most likely do not have the shift patterns in the corect order.

there was the NP242. it should have teh following options 4wd full time-4wd hi part time-2wd-n-4wd low part time.

the np231 with 2wd-4wdhi-n-4wd low

these were the only 2 available in 1992. so if you have a 4wd full time option, you have the 242, if no full time 4wd option, you have the 231. the 231 is the more desirable of the two.

there are some minor differences within the cases themselves over the years, so you need to find one out of a similar year, (1991 and newer i believe) as the older ones had a different spline count on the input.

How about 125 and you get a spare AW4 tranny? I need it gone. Still connected to the 4.0,but we can separate it quickly if you are interested. They are sitting on a pallet in the back yard under a tarp.

I think I see the problem. Not sure if the crack is the origin of the problem or a result of something else. The holes are easy to see but there is also a crack that went around.

I guess you could say Crack killed my jeep. I need to call Dr. Jeep.

they are known for chain issues. did the exact same thing to the 242 in my cherokee. and the 249 in the grand, but it split all the way in half.

soler1 has one down in Brea, KY that looks goods. Kind of a far drive but if it's the best one then I will make the drive.

Do you think there might be one closer to Cincinnati?

I know that U pull n Pay has some Cherokees but with them you aren't sure of the condition of the parts.
