Weakend adventure on a bike

Had to just get out and enjoy yesterday's wonderful weather. Heard rumor tell of a new trail at Houston Woods, marked as the orange trail. What a misnomer. One minute of fast easy twisty turns with some quick braking and power sliding lead to the hard stuff. It only took a few moments to realize I may be in a little deep.

Buddy of mine yells hard left going up. WHACK, limb, fallen trunk, is that my rear wheel in front of me? Stand back up laugh it off asses the damage bike looks OK. Hmmm my sock is feeling a bit wet, pedal bite. I hollered out, “I'm good let's go.” Yea I'm out of shape, OK, OK I'm fat and fifteen years older than these guys. But I refuse to believe I’m old. Pushing the bike up the hill, pushing pushing pushing how's that law of gravity go.

Oh crap, brake BraKE BRAKE mind you this is 20 minutes into an 8 mile trek. My rear brakes finally failed and with no tools on hand. I'm normally a bit more conservative with issues like this but heck it's just a bicycle. Let's ride on.

The trail is very well thought out if you’re the kind of person that likes a challenge or your just a masochist. Several trials bridges were built even a few teepees. I had to keep reminding myself look through the turns, through the turns, through the trees branches, cliff and than tumble down again luckily my face protected my body from any serious damage.

I was consumed with anger, because I'm not that old and this doesn't hurt. OH but it did and still does. I couldn't finish the eight miles do to time. I had to work that evening. So I waved good-bye sped off to my car caught a bit of air in some womps and settled down softly in a briar patch. For crying out load it was nearly flat ground.

When I did get back to the car I made a lap to cool off. While lifting the bike to put it in the trunk I realized I was done for the day. Just couldn't get the bike all the way up. Scratched the hell out of the bumper took a nice chunk of meat out of my other leg. Wow I hurt. I opened the driver’s side door and fell into the car seat pulled my legs in and realized the trunk was still wide open and not strapped down. I decided the bike isn't going anywhere and I can afford the extra gas it was going to waste.

So today I'm limping and aching. I took a few Motrin and I told a few stories to some associates. They looked at me like, WHY? I told them because I'm neither old, nor dead and ones life is measured by the stories one tells. But to be able to tell about any adventure you have to really experience it.

Oh yes, I'm going again next week if my schedule permits. And that trail should have been marked with the bloody stump of who ever created it.
