backlash

Sorry I bet this might have been covered but my dumb phone wont let me use search. I know how to set and check it. Did it tons in school but no real world experience. I am in specs but wonder what people found is best. I am towards the looser end. I am thinking of tightening it up, still in specs. Thoughts?

Due to the differences in setup, might be helpful to share some details about the axle in question...
("tightening it up" for a "spanner style" axle like a 14bolt/9in is FAR different than a "shims behind pressed on bearings style" axle like most Dana axles for example...)

Also nice to know if it's a Daily Driver to trail only rig... Either way... "in spec" is really "in spec" so I would run with it... assuming good pattern.

Run a gear pattern with the marking compound, post up pic... then you should really get some interest...

My 2 pesos...

Its technically not even a diff its secondary drive in my wildcat trans. Its pretty much a miny diff. It uses shims. Not sure what caused the failure for sure so not sure their so called spec is good

Ahh, well then I'm about useless... I have no idea about a wildcat trans... if the lubricant will stay contaminant free, I would think tighter would be better...

Curious, what was this failure you speak of?

for regular ring and pinions, they loosen up so keep it on the tighter end of specs
