Red River

Non wheeling question. Are you still able to hike to the arch where we used to wheel at Red River. This would be by the old camp site through Zachery (I think that is the name of the town) I have some family wondering if you can get to it on foot. Or is it shut down completely?

Thanks
Steve

you can still get there by foot. it is just shut off to vehicle travel by large rocks in the roadway. It's a fun hike.

Everything is always open, if you are willing to walk to it. When they closed the trails, they put up the "foot travel only" signs.

Me and my wife used to Arch hunt down at red river every weekend.
Theres a book that got us started called ( land of the arches ).
Did you know red river has the 2nd most arches of anywere in the US?
It's 2nd only to arches NP in UT ( right in Moab) we have been there to! LOL

Just thought if you like one arch you might like the book. we just picked a new arch each trip and tried to find as many as we could.
We found all but one thats in the book. made for a great summer that year.

Yep thats the book. They used to sell it in all the shops down there also.

If you get done with that I can hook you up with gerry or the (arch man) last time I had talked to him he had found right around 200 arches in the red river valley. And had some good topo maps.
