Cincinnati's Subway

I was privileged enough to get a tour of the abandon subway system under Cincinnati. For anyone that is not familiar with it, it was constructed between 1920 to 1926 when the $6million in funds ran out. All that is left is a 2.4 mile stretch under central parkway and a few short tunnels in norwood that have been sealed off.

Here are my pictures of the Race St. Station

haha, i did the same when i was in college. the indows along 75 where the tunnel is still above ground where all bared up. so we cut one of the bars out (while standing right next to 75) and then just went in. pretty cool. at the stations you can walk up the stairs and they are closed off with big metal doors locked shut, but you can push them up just enough to see what streets your near. and the giant station at the end with the brick tunnels is awesome. i felt like a ninja turtle.

They only offer tours 4 times a year. OTRFoundation.com offers two of them and The Cincinnati Historical Society offers the other two. I believe the next one will be in June.

A buddy and I were going to try and get in our selves and get our own tour but a contact of mine informed me of the one OTR was running.

I'm trying to remember how I even heard of it a few years ago (transplant, not a native Ohioian).

I sent an email to be added to the wait list.

These people usually run a tour atleast once a year but it is not listed on their site. They do however run several very informative tours

http://www.cincymuseum.org/informati...s/heritage.asp

This is a great site for information on Cincinnati and Ohio in general
