help me build my sidekick!
ok i guess im jumping in with both feet! bought yota axles . planning on running 33s or 35 what ever i can find used prob. my problem is suspention. i guess some sort of jeep leafs would be good but why not 3 link the front and 4 link the rear. i cant find a vendor with a kit so i guess i would have to build either way. you guys are the experts ! give me your opinions . thanks matt

What are you looking to do with your new toy? Is it going to be off road only, some street or Daily Driver? What kind of trails do you hit? Woods, Rock or Mud? How much are you looking to spend.
Once you tell everyone those basic questions they can tell you how you should build it. |

Pretty sure trail tough sells a coil/link kit for trackers and sidekicks, but it'll probably cost more than you paid for your entire rig.

I used www.ruffstuffspecialties.com for a LOT of parts and heims and brackets for my Jeep... top notch stuff, great customer service, and it's not insanely priced whatsoever
Call the number on the home page, Dan is great to deal with... it's nice when you call a company and the owner is the one answering the phones 90% of the time. |

some street use i driver it to work now and then about 20 miles no interstate, trail wise ,ive been to badlands for zukimelt last 2 yrs in a mostly stock sidekick, looking to do more with it. really dont want to spend 2700 on kit from trail tough when they tell you its not good on the road. the only things definite is yotas with grizly locker rear and lock rite front and 5.89s other than that not sure. tires size 33s or 35s i guess.

Find a set of 4cyl TJ coils, barnes4x4 has rod ends for pretty cheap, get some 1/4" plate for tabs and brackets, and some 1 1/2' DOM tube for links and start cuting and welding

5.89's and 33's would be be screaming on the highway wouldn't it. It would crawl good. I'm running 5.38's with a 40" tire and my crawls good. Mine doesn't like highway speeds any more. :mad: |

5 spd sidekicks come with 5.12 gears from the factory and 4.62 in autos so the 5.89s will work ok. the 4dr sidekick above was mine and was a 2wd 5spd when i started. i put yota axles with the stock 4.10 gears and added a samurai divorsed t case which has a high range of 1.4-1 and will give you a final drive of 5.79 with the 4.10 gears and pulled the 35" tires just fine at highway speed. if i were you i would find a 2wd trans and do the same with a samurai t case because its cheaper and has more gears to chose from and also gets rid of the slip yokes. or you could spend alot of money with trailtough and by there undertaker case for $1300 and still need to do alot of mods. as far as suspention i linked mine and it was great on and off road but will take a bit more thought and money to do it correctly.

actualy only the 3speed autos have the 4:62's MOSt others had 5:12 reagardless, unless you got the super rare 5:61's.

well thats interesting because my auto 96 x90 has 4.62s in it and the 95 4 dr auto that i had also 4.62s the rest of them just passed through my hands but that was just my experience from working at a acura/suzuki service department from 1989 untill they ditched suzuki in 96 and the 5.61s i did see only in the 89 kick with the carbed 1.6 and you are correct those were few and far between

ALL x-90s regardless have 4.62...
Your 4door would either had 4.30's ( if a 3speed) or 5.12's if a 4speed I have had over 20 trackicks. Only 3 of them had 4.62's and those were 3speed autos. No 4speed auto ever had 4.62's from the factory except for the x-90 as found on zuwharrie 89-98 Trackick gear ratios Years....2 or 4 door...Engine type...Transmission...Axle ratio 89 2 1.3L carb. 5 speed man. 5.625 89-95 2 1.6L TBI 5 speed man. 5.125 89-95 2 1.6L TBI 3 speed auto 4.625 91 4 1.6L TBI 5 speed man. 5.375 91 4 1.6L TBI 3 speed auto 4.625 92-98 4 1.6L MPFI 5 speed man. 5.125 92-98 4 1.6L MPFI 3 speed auto 4.30 92-98 4 1.6L MPFI 4 speed auto 5.125 94-98 2 1.6L MPFI 5 speed man. 5.125 94-98 2 1.6L MPFI 3 speed auto 4.30 94-98 2 1.6L MPFI 4 speed auto 5.125 96-98 X90 1.6L MPFI auto or man. 4.625 edit: I did say only 3speed autos had 4.62, but I was talking trackicks, not x-90 as this thread isnt about an x-90.

A sidekick will barely be able to move with 35's and 5:29's
Assuming you have 5.12's in your sidekick you will wont 6:64 gears on 35's to see "stock" performance and they dont make that low for very many axles. Even with 4.62's stock youd still want a 5.99 ratio for "stock" performance unless you put tcase gears in, build a double, or put a bigger engine in you'll be eating up clutches.

Barnes4wd.com has some universal link kits. I used one when I linked the rear of my sami. Rock4xfab has a good kit to put a sami case behind the track/kick case for a good doubler. This will give you a high range reduction and not have to worry about the axle gears so much.
