racing anyone...

This is what my "go to" Landcruiser guy's hobby is these days... LeMons series... Team "Muttonheads"
I could sure see a few of the folks in the club being interested in it...

Jim is a race car driver vid, first stint of the day, in 3 parts:

IIRC we ended up in 22nd at this race (24 Hours of LeMons - Summit Point Raceway) after being as high as 12th early on. As one of the newbe drivers I get credit for dropping a few places Saturday. Held my own Sunday. I have the honor of NOT trading paint with fellow racers. ALL the other drivers on the team rubbed someone else's car at some point.

Pretty sure our last race of this season will be a 25h:25m:25s Chumpcar race at Nelson Ledges Road Course in Garrettsville, OH. Nelson Ledges - Schedules - ChumpCar World Series - The Longer Longest Day - 25:25:25

Come out and see the show

Sign me up! Need more details. Do they get pissed if you cut through the grass to shorten the corners and bump a bit into one another?

looks like a blast. Being an old autocrosser, this really is interesting and i have been following the LeMons thing a bit. I still think the cars should be prepped by one team of - jacklegs and then each car gets rotated through the competitors over the course of the race. Emphasis....driving and consistency with a bent on keeping junk together. Making the most out of almost nothing...!!!

BTW. What kind of car, specs, prep...? It looked to have a good bit of body roll on the hi-speed corners, but does seem to move out pretty good and come off the corners decent. Looks like a ton-o-fun if the fun is the goal.

I don't know a lot about the details other than the main one which is you have to start with a car that cost u less than 500 bucks... I think there is no $ limit on safety and other certain areas of the car...

My friends have been racing a GTI for 4 years now...

yeah basic rules are low money limit to be spent on the car, total cost of everything. but anything you sell off the car (interior parts etc) can be deducted from what you spend to give you more money to use. any safety items are not included in the cost of the car, as a cage, harness, and other safety features are mandatory and obviously you cant build/buy all the needed safety stuff with the budget and thats not one thing to skimp on either.

A carefully-crafted cage can give you a nice boost in handling. E-bay, craigslist, and swap meets could really get you a long way towards something to beat on for fun. Big money racing can be fun to watch, but even most grassroots racing has gone the way of millionaire hobbyists that will spend on a weekender more than most of us make in a year. I don't begrudge them that, but it makes it hard for most of us to be competitive in open venues. I used to hate claimer sprints, but it grew on me over the years. The gross cheaters eventually got weeded out. Everyone bends the rulebook some.
