GM Flex Plate/Flywheel question
Ok,I just bought an 86 Chevy Military CUCV M1008 1 1/4 ton pickup from 502EFI (Chris) and it had a 6.2 diesel in it but it has been removed..It still has the 400t and 208 in it along with the torque converter is in it too..I have a couple questions..The converter has 6 mounting points to attach it to the flex plate/Flywheel..I bought a used GM 350 crate engine from a friend and it came out of a camaro with an auto and I was wondering if the I am going to be able to use the flexplate that is on the 350 with the 6 bolt torque converter?? I havent gone over and picked up the engine yet so I havent looked at it to see if it has a 6 bolt patern or not..Also I was wondering if the 350 will be an easy drop in and bolt rite up swap or if there is going to be a lot of moving motor mounts etc since it had a 6.2 diesel in it..It has a hydro boost brake system on it and the 350 already has a power steering pump on it and I was also wondering if it will have to be swapped out for a different pump to work with the hydro boost set up..

The flywheel should bolt up. The torque converter from the diesel will probably not work well. I believe torque converters from diesel and gas engines are set up differently for certain rpm ranges. The brakes should be fine as they are. In dodge cummins trucks the brake system is similar and a gasoline swap poses no problems. Engine mounts should not be a big deal even if they need to be swapped from a donor gas frame. Good luck! Why not find another 6.2?

Fred the good thing about the 6.2 is that a 350 will bolt in place of a it same motor mounts etc... You can use a 350 flex plate look for a 1-ton one if yours does not have 6 bolts. You will need a power steering pump off a 1-ton gas motor to run the hydro boost. Also you need to convert the trans it will not run right with a gas motor. You will need to set it up for gas.
call me if you need some more info.

Thanks guys,I will have to get everything here so I can see what I have..I didn't want the 6.2 in it anyway so I found this 350..I figured I would need to change out the pump but since it wasn't here yet I didn't know for sure..

Nothing really other than the guy chris bought the truck from wanted $2500 for it with the 6.2 in it and he wound up buying the truck without the engine for $1000 and the seller pulled the engine..I bought it from chris..It has the 456 gears,60front & 14bolt rear w/detroit ,400/208 ,Big radiator, great tires and just a touch of rust on one of the cab corners..If I could fing a 6.2 cheap I would put it in but since I found this little hot 350 I figured it would be an easy swap..

I have a low miles(82K) J-code 6.2 in my dump truck that I would trade for a good running 454 if you could come up with one.

He put a $1500 value on a 6.2 !?!, hell I'd take an even dozen M1008's with the diesel removed for $1K each! |
