Why anyone would pay for a steak and then cook it beyond recognition is something I will never understand...
Medium rare for me, please... But I usually order medium at most steak houses as medium rare seems to be a hard target for many to hit especially at the chains. Last edited by Incommando; 10-21-2012 at 06:13 AM. |

M-R..but a little closer to M is fine. Very rare meat seems to leave it's flavors pooled on my plate..it just needs to be cooked enough to retain it's jucies.
If I'm looking to go bloody then I order prime... Jeff |

I was twelve before I even knew I liked steak. My dear old dad always grilled the chit out of it...
Rare! Of course, when you order rare, you usually get at least med-rare, but that's okay too... El Coyote actually has a disclaimer on their menu: "Not resposible for steaks ordered med-well or well done." Love that!

grew up eating them well done most of the time. stepped down to med-well but most places you go, that means well done to them. Most of the time i order Medium now, but actually prefer a true med-well. just some pink in the middle, but i would rather have it a little under done than any over done.

Get Anything more than medium and you might as well be chewing on a leather boot.

Gotta be at the lower end of medium for me. This is an excellent site that explains why if you're cooking it well done, you're doing it wrong:
http://www.amazingribs.com/tips_and_...t_science.html And a fantastic temperature guide: http://www.amazingribs.com/tips_and_...ure_guide.html That site is excellent, since I've read it and started cooking with thermometers, everything I've made is so much better. That site has actually ruined eating steak out at restaurants for me. :p |

Definitely depends on the meat! Bacon is burnt. Filet is a bit red in medium.

I love that our way-less-than-scientific poll has produced an almost perfect bell curve...
