Tony, what is in your XJ now? The 8.25 will bolt in when most Dana 44's won't plus it will cost a lot more. The 8.25 has a lot more aftermarket support now which is nice. I have a 29 spline 8.25.88 XJ - 5" lift - 35" BFG's - Bumpers - Rock Rails - Homebrewed OBA - Roof Rack - Tube Doors - Trimmed - Dented
87 XJ - D44 - Disco D30 - 235's - 231TC - Stock for now

I've even considered selling my locked and geared 44, doing up a 29spl, and pocketing the difference.
The 44s are over priced anymore. I sure wouldn't buy another.

My first choice Dana 44...They hold their value. Have you called around ??With the the cash for clunkers program you may find one cheap ..
The 29 spline C8.25 will work fine too..
NickJust a 200 dollar cherokee that wouldn't start ..
